Grainless Sesame Chicken Bowl with Cauliflower Rice

Craving takeout? Skip the takeout tonight and opt for this savoury, yet healthy option! Typical takeout contains tons of sodium, oil, fat and is heavily deep fried. This version can easily be made on your stove top in no more than 25 minutes! To create this recipe you only need a few simple ingredients for a whole lot of flavour! Make it tonight for a quick weeknight meal.

If you haven’t tried cauliflower rice, I’m telling you now that it is a must try! It looks just like rice and picks up the flavour of anything you put on it. It is great because it is gluten and grain free, plus you can eat as much as you want without feeling terribly full and bloated after, unlike traditional rice. This recipe is grainless, gluten free, dairy free, paleo and refined sugar free. Make it vegetarian and vegan by substituting tofu for chicken.

 Sesame Chicken Bowl Recipe:

Sauce Ingredients:

  • ½ cup honey

  • 1/3 cup gluten free soya sauce

  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)

  • 1 tbsp ginger (minced)

  • 3 tbsp sesame seeds

Chicken Coating Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp avocado oil

  • 8 chicken thighs

  • 1 egg (beaten)

  • ½ cup almond flour

  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds

Cauliflower Rice Ingredients:

  • 1 head cauliflower (grated)

  • 3 green onions or scallions (chopped)


  1. In a small mixing bowl whisk together all of the sauce ingredients. Set aside

  2. In a large skillet heat oil on medium heat.

  3. For the chicken coating-Use 2 small bowls, add beaten egg to one bowl and almond flour to the other bowl.

  4. Take chicken thighs individually— coat in egg, then coat in almond flour, then place in skillet.

  5. Repeat for all chicken thighs.

  6. Cover chicken and cook on medium heat for 15 minutes, flipping chicken every 5 minutes or so.

  7. In the meantime, place cauliflower rice in a microwavable bowl. Microwave for 4-5 minutes. Do not add water!

  8. Once the chicken has cooked for 15 minutes, pour sauce over chicken. Bring to a boil and let simmer for another 5-10 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked.

  9. When the chicken and sauce is done cooking, remove from heat and let sit for about 5 minutes. This allows the sauce to thicken more.

  10. Once everything is done cooking- place rice in a bowl, add some of the sauce into the rice and mix well until the rice is coated with the sauce, then add in green onions.

  11. Add chicken on top of rice. Pour on some additional sauce and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
