Refreshing Lemonade

It’s the perfect time of year to enjoy a refreshing glass of lemonade, the problem is almost all of the lemonade you find in stores contain artificial flavouring, colouring and way too much refined sugar. Making your own is better in so many ways! First of all you can control the amount and type of sugar that goes in it. Secondly, lemons have tons of beneficial nutritional properties- they contain a large amount of vitamin C, detoxify your live  and assist in alkalizing the body to help restore your body’s natural pH levels. Why not reap these benefits while enjoying a nice cold glass of this great summer drink!

Lemonade Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1  1/4  cups fresh lemon juice (approx. large 4 lemons)

  • 1 tbsp lemon zest

  • 7 cups cold water

  • 1 cup warm water

  • 1/4 – 1 cup natural sweetener of choice – Agave, Palm Sugar, Cane Sugar, Stevia (I used 1/4 cup organic palm sugar because I don’t like it very sweet)

  • 1 lemon sliced

  • 1 cup ice

Directions:

  1. Combine lemon juice, zest and cold water in a large pitcher.

  2. In a small bowl combine warm water and sugar. Mix well until sugar dissolves.

  3. Pour sugar mixture into the pitcher with lemon water.

  4. Mix well.

  5. Store in fridge for at least an hour to chill.

  6. Add in sliced lemon and ice before serving.
