Simple Caramelized Brussels Sprouts

Hey y’all! First of all I want to say thank you for putting up with my lack of posts over the past several months. A couple weeks ago, I had some #realtalk on my Instagram page, sharing some struggles I’ve been going through since the beginning of Summer 2017. If you haven’t checked it out, you can HERE.

Going off that, here’s a quote I found today because everyone can use this reminder from time to time.

In the most positive way, things still aren’t looking up just yet. That being said, I’m trying my best to not let these things bring me down. Like a normal human being, I do have my moments but at the end of the day there is still SO MUCH to be grateful for <3

Once life gets back on track (fingers crossed within the next few weeks), I have so many blog posts I want to write. For now, here’s a quick recipe!

Confession: I only started eating Brussels sprouts this year and I feel like I’ve really been missing out in life. You know when you’re a kid and you just assume you don’t like something – that was me for 25 years (which is weird because I’m not a picky eater). Anyways, you asked so here it is – my fave way to cook Brussels sprouts! These caramelized Brussels Sprouts are seriously so simple for the amount of flavour they provide. Best off all, everyone can enjoy the recipe because it’s gluten free, paleo, vegan and refined sugar free.

Simple Caramelized Brussels Sprouts

  • 1 lb Brussels sprouts
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 tbsp avocado oil (or olive oil)
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • ¼ tsp salt

  1. Prepare the Brussels sprouts by peeling off 2 to 3 of the dark outer leaves; trim stem ends.
  2. Place Brussels sprouts and water in a sauce pan. Place a lid over to cover steam on medium heat for 8-10 minutes until the water is gone and the Brussels sprouts are tender yet crisp.
  3. Add in oil, vinegar, maple syrup and salt. Sauté over medium heat until the Brussels sprouts are lightly caramelized.
