SHOTS! SHOTS! SHOTS! And not the ones you’d find me taking most days of the week in university…! I’ve switched up my shot game these days to something that’s much less inflammatory and better for the immune system. If you own a juicer, this shot is a must-have as we enter the winter months!
Why is this shot so great?
It contains a powerhouse of superfoods! Turmeric is a potent antioxidant and natural anti-inflammatory. To properly absorb the main ingredient in turmeric (curcumin) a small amount of black pepper is added to aid in proper absorption. Along with that, ginger is a powerful immune system booster and antibacterial to fight off infections, while lemon cleanses the liver to remove toxins in the body and is a great source of vitamin C. The shot is finished off with a hint of cayenne, which is full of betacarotene and antioxidants that aid in flighting off the cold and flu – among several other benefits!
Makes: Four 2-ounce servings
3 inch piece fresh turmeric
2 inch piece fresh ginger
1 cup filtered water
1-2 tbsp honey
Pinch ground black pepper
Using a juicer, juice turmeric, ginger, lemon. Pour in the water to flush the juice.
Stir in honey, cayenne and black pepper.
Start each morning off it a shot. Store in a glass jar for up to 4 days.
If you don’t have a juicer you can use a blender. Squeeze the lemon juice into the blender. Cut the skins off the turmeric and ginger. Blend all ingredients together
