Ways To Use Coconut Oil & My Favourite Products ATM

26 Seconds. That’s all it takes for chemicals in personal care products to enter the bloodstream. Each year women put an average of 500 chemicals in their bodies just from health and beauty products alone – that’s crazy and it’s actually very preventable!

You may think about what you IN your body as far as food, but do you ever think about what your put ON it? It’s very important to keep your body healthy both inside & out!

Three years ago, I cleared out all my chemical-filled moisturizers, hairsprays, soaps, shampoos, face washes etc. Many people think they’ll spend more by switching to natural products, but I’d have to disagree. Regular health and beauty products typically have one specific  use, meanwhile I can buy a ten dollar jar of coconut oil and use it for twenty different things! Also, I’ve began to notice drug store products run out but faster than the natural. Rather than buying a million different products,  I stick to a few good natural ones and have definitely saved in the long run. Without added fillers (many fillers also contain gluten!) most products last so much long and it’s great to have the piece of mind that no harmful chemical are entering my blood steam each day as I get ready.

I’m going to share with you way I use coconut oil and my favourite products at the moment!

The Many Ways To Use Coconut Oil

Deep conditioning hair treatment: Using hands, apply a small amount to the tips of your hair. I have fine hair and find my hair gets greasy if I put around my scalp, although I have heard it works well for people with thicker hair. You can also apply coconut oil to the scalp to fight dandruff.

Makeup remover: Simply apply a small amount of oil to a cotton cosmetic pad. I’ve been using coconut oil as my primary makeup remover for years now. After all this time, I’ve notice that the oil has assisted in growing longer, healthier lashes.

Shaving cream: Apply a small amount directly to the desired area, it will provide a smooth shave and keep your skin moisturized.

Face & body cleanser: Make your own body wash by combining 1 tbsp coconut oil, 1/2 cup castile soap, ¾ cup filtered water, 10 drops essential oil. Pour into a dispenser bottle and shake well to mix. Use as body and face wash for clean and natural glowing skin.

Face & body moisturizer: Apply oil directly to skin. You can also add a few drops of your favourite essential oil for a fresh scent.

Lip balm: Apply a small amount directly to lips.

Cuticle softener: Take a small amount and rub into cuticles with fingers. Repeat daily for best results.

Oil pulling (teeth whitening/mouthwash): Also assists in preventing tooth decay, reduces plaque/gingivitis, naturally reduces bad breath. Swish around half a teaspoon of coconut oil in your mouth. Allows it to cover your gums, tongue and teeth. Leave in your mouth for 20 minutes, then rinse out and brush teeth. Repeat daily for best results.

My Favourite Products Right Now

Shampoo & Conditioner: Saje Wellness Rosa Rescue

You are going to notice very quickly that I have a complete obsession with Saje Wellness! I not only love their products, but their customer service and in-store experience in phenomenal! All of their sales people are very friendly and knowledgeable. The main reason that I go in-store rather than shop online is because I really enjoy the health and wellness related conversations that I get into with the staff.

For a solid two years I searched for the perfect natural shampoo and conditioner. I never found a brand that I really loved and I’d switch brands every time the bottles ran out. About a year ago, I discovered Saje’s conditioner. It’s the only brand I’ve used since. For awhile the only problem was they didn’t offer a shampoo. I was extremely excited when I walked into my local Saje store last fall to find that they FINALLY came out with the matching shampoo.

They’re so particular about their ingredients – Saje came out with a conditioner long before  shampoo because it was more challenging to develop a clean natural shampoo than conditioner and they wanted to ensure the formula was perfect before launching it! I can totally applicate that.

If you’re new to natural hair care – the first thing to know about natural shampoos is they do not foam or foam very little with use. Regular shampoo brands such as Dove use harmful chemicals in order to create foaming. There are no truly natural ingredients that will produce a thick lather.

Saje Wellness Pocket Farmacy: For upset stomach, pains, headache, stress, cold and flu prevention etc.

Saje’s Pocket Farmacy has to be one the the greatest products EVER. It’s a kit that includes 5 roll-on essential oil remedies. Unless I’m in dire pain, I stay away from taking drugs like Tylenol and Advil when I’m not feeling well. I made it through a week of the full blown stomach flu using only this pack (& my diffuser)!

What does this pack include?

Peppermint Halo: I believe this was their first big product. Thankfully, I don’t get headaches or mirages often, but it is a proven and effective remedy for suffers. It assists in decreasing symptoms within four minutes. When I had the flu I was getting bad headaches, I applied it around my hairline and felt relief quite quickly. The pain decreased a lot and it gives a cool numbing feel.

Pain release: I apply the pain release when I have sore muscle or have aches/pains when I’m sick. It reduces inflammation and relieves muscle pain related to stiffness, overuse or injury.

Immune: I use this every single day. I apply it to my hands as a sanitizer, rather than using the chemical versions. It aids in fighting viruses, plus helps the body fight cold/flu and relieve symptoms.

Eaters digest: This one is for all my fellow friends who have dietary issues. It will be your savour! I was so shocked how well it worked the first time I tired it. It is used to soothe upset stomachs and ease digestion. I apply it up the centre of my chest, plus over my stomach, liver and intestines. For additional relief I’ll often apply small amount to the top of my hand and lick it of (I know, that sounds weird), I swear it does wonders.

Stress relief: Use this one to help alleviate symptoms of mild anxiety, plus promotes relaxation.

Foundation: Arbonne Got You Covered Mineral Powder

This powder is great because it has a no makeup feel that helps prevent moisture loss and creates a shine-free finish. I’ve tired a few brands that over time caused breakouts. What I like about Arbonne is their brand has an ingredient policy. All of their makeup is free of: gluten, talc, tallow, carbon black, animal products or by-products, parabens, formaldehyde-donating preservatives, phthalates, formaldehyde, alkylphenols, benzene, monoethanolamine, triclosan, synthetic dyes, hydroquinone, mineral oil!

Bronzer: Arbonne Glow – On Bronzer

I recently started buying Arbonne products from a friend and I’m pretty impressed! I find this works well when paired with the Arbonne’s mineral powder foundation.

Blush: Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush

This blush truly lives up to it’s 12-hour wear claim. For oily skin types, the Amazonian clay minimizes oil in and around pores to balance skin and keep the product on your skin all day. If you have dry skin will benefit from the clay’s nourishing and hydrating properties, which naturally restore skin’s moisture.  It’s free of:

Gluten, Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates, petrochemicals, synthetic fragrances, GMOs, triclosan and mineral oil

Mascara: Bare Minerals

I don’t particularly like this specific Bare Minerals mascara, but they have other ones that I really like. The only thing I don’t like about this is the application brush. Their mascara is great because it’s smudge-proof, flake-free and clump-free.

Free of: gluten and parabens

Eyeliner: Pacifica Natural Eye Pencil

As for a pencil liner, the Pacifica brand is pretty good. It goes on smooth and lasts all day. It contains jojoba oil and shea butter which protects and helps keep skin around the eyes moisturized.

Free of: Gluten, cruelty free, FD&C color, phthalates, parabens, sulfates, propylene glycol, benzene, mineral oil, petroleum, peanut oil, triclosan

Deodorant: Saje Wellness Au Natural

I purchased this a year ago and it still hasn’t ran out! I’ve tried many different natural deodorants and this one is definitely the best. With other brands I worry about starting to smell throughout the day. Saje’s version fights unwanted scents by neutralizing odor-causing bacteria, rather than just merely masking it and is one of the most effect on the market! Saje also offers, I’m also a big fan of that!

This product is: completely natural, non-sticky, ideal for sensitive skin types, doesn’t clog pore, free of harsh chemicals, doesn’t stain clothes and is unscented

Hairspray: Andalou Naturals Full Volume Lavender & Biotin Style Spray

Natural hairspray is a difficult one. I haven’t found one that I love, but this one is so far the best! The Biotin B-Complex infuses essential proteins and nutrients to stimulate scalp for thicker, fuller strands with improved strength, texture and shine. I must say, my hair feels very sofy and has a nice shine after using.

This product is: gluten free, non-GMO, organic

As I try new products I’ll keep you posted on my other non-toxic beauty finds!
